English Website Narrative
In the past my favorite parts of English classes were the poetry
units. It allows me to see how others express their feelings and makes me feel
closer to those I have not met or never thought to talk to. My least enjoyable
subjects in English classes in the past were learning grammar and spelling. I
have tendencies to become so in depth in what I am writing I forget to put
correct grammar and even forgetting to write out the complete word instead I
would only write the first letter of the word. Novels I enjoy reading are those
that take place in an everyday setting but have characters that have
supernatural talents. At times I do like to read non-fiction novels but only if
the person has a personality that I find to be intriguing and curious to find
out more about them. In previous classes my teachers have included art into
learning about subjects such as idioms or poetry. Though some teachers have gone
step by step in class with projects I preferred when the teachers had intervals
and checked specific parts of the assignment allowing me to go at my own pace
even if I procrastinate at times.
This year I chose to be in English 9 honors because I was influenced by parents and
teachers to challenge myself with a tougher course. Also I chose it for myself
because I knew if someone expected more of me then I would try harder in the
class creating better habits for future years. I decided that honors would be a
good class to start out at as a base for my future English classes. I hope that
this class will help me improve my grammatical skills and spelling. I have
heard that this class is much tougher than the regular course with many essays
and requires more attention to the details of the work to get a good grade but
helps with classes in future years. Also that it is impressive on college
transcripts to have an honors course. I fear that my previous habits will
slow me down and affect my progress in the class to the point where it would be
tough to get a decent grade. So far the class is fun and unlike other classes
it encourages creativity but also has strict rules on form, grammar, and other
subjects. It seems like a class that I will my enjoy but be miserable in
because of time occupying work.
